What is Erasmus+?
1.1 What is Erasmus+?
Erasmus+ is the European Union’s programme supporting education, training, youth and sport.
It enables students to study or complete a traineeship abroad while encouraging cooperation and exchange between higher education institutions.
Through Erasmus+, students gain:
- international experience and intercultural skills,
- new knowledge and professional competences,
- language development,
- recognition of academic achievements completed abroad,
- and opportunities for personal growth and long-term international connections.
Types of Mobility
1.2 Types of Mobility
1.2.1 Study Mobility
Incoming students can study at FOS for one or two semesters. Courses are taught in English, and all completed and approved courses are approved by the student’s home institution through a Learning Agreement.
Students benefit from:
- tuition-free study at the host institution,
- financial support from their home institution,
- improved language skills,
- international academic experience,
- and participation in FOS academic and extracurricular activities.
1.2.2 Traineeship Mobility
FOS also welcomes students completing Erasmus+ traineeships in Slovenia. Traineeships are carried out in companies or institutions and must relate to the student's study field.
Traineeships can be completed:
- during studies, or
- up to 12 months after graduation (recent graduates).
1.2.3 Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP)
A BIP combines:
- short-term physical mobility (5–30 days), and
- virtual collaboration with students from partner institutions.
BIPs include project work, workshops, research tasks, and cultural exchange.
Current BIP opportunities are listed HERE.
Choosing FOS as Your Host Institution
1.3 Choosing FOS as Your Host Institution
FOS cooperates with a wide network of European partners. Incoming students can join us if their home institution has a valid Erasmus+ agreement with FOS.
Students should explore:
- course offerings in English,
- ECTS credits,
- course descriptions and semester availability,
- programme requirements and learning outcomes.
If your university does not yet have an Erasmus+ agreement with FOS, it may be possible to establish one – your Erasmus coordinator can contact us.
Inclusion and Additional Support
1.4 Inclusion and Additional Support
1.4.1 Students with Fewer Opportunities
Erasmus+ promotes equal access. Students with physical, mental or health-related conditions can receive additional financial or organisational support.
1.4.2 Language Support – OLS
Erasmus+ Online Language Support (OLS) provides:
- mandatory pre- and post-mobility language assessments,
- free online language courses,
- tools for improving English (or other mobility languages) before and during the stay.
- Language testing is performed through OLS at the home institution.
- If needed, students should complete the OLS English course before arrival.
Language results do not affect participation but help match students with appropriate support.
