“An education isn’t how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. It’s being able to differentiate between what you do know and what you don’t. It’s knowing where to go to find out what you need to know; and it’s knowing how to use the information you get”

About the Library

About the Library

“The educated person is one who knows how to find out what he does not know.”

Georg Simmel

The FOŠ Library was established in early 2012. Since June 2012 it has provided open access to materials and information to support teaching and research. It primarily serves FOŠ students, academic staff, and researchers, as well as external users interested in the field. In January 2012 the library became a full member of the COBISS system, through which it performs its core functions: lending, cataloguing and processing materials, resource discovery, bibliographic services, and more. We keep pace with current library practice and strive to meet the information needs of our students and researchers.

The library’s core tasks include:

  • Providing support and actively participating in educational and research activities, ensuring high-quality library services through professional work and new technologies.
  • Ensuring broad access to materials, information resources, and services.
  • Participating in library information systems at home and abroad.
  • Conducting librarianship, documentation, information, and educational activities based on the latest findings in library and information science.
  • Ensuring the library’s integration at the national level.
  • Contributing to cooperative cataloguing at the national level.

  • ProQuest Dissertations & Theses: Global (PQDT Global)
The world’s most comprehensive collection of doctoral and master’s theses. Contains bibliographic data for nearly 4 million works from universities in 88 countries dating back to 1743, with an annual increase of about 100,000 records. Full texts are available for roughly 1.7 million works from 1997 onward.
  • Scopus
A multidisciplinary bibliographic database with a citation index, produced by Elsevier B.V. Scopus covers about 39,000 journal titles (24,500 currently publishing and ~4,000 open-access) from over 5,000 publishers and includes more than 75 million records (68 million with references after 1970 and 6 million for 1788–1970). Updated weekly.
  • ScienceDirect
A platform from one of the world’s leading publishers of electronic journals.
  • SpringerLink
Access to nearly 2,500 scholarly and professional journals and over 33,000 books from publishers within Springer Science+Business Media (notably Springer-Verlag and Kluwer Academic Publishers). Fields covered include biomedical, natural and technical sciences, business and economics, the humanities, psychology, sociology, law, and more.
  • Unpaywall
A database with tens of millions of open-access scholarly articles available in full text, aggregating content from more than 50,000 publishers and repositories.
  • EIFL Direct — EBSCOhost
EIFL Direct (Electronic Information for Libraries Direct) began in 1999 as a joint project of the Open Society Institute and EBSCO Publishing, one of the world’s largest providers of electronic and print scholarly journals.
At this time, our faculty does not have access to the consortium that would enable remote access for our students. You can obtain access via the Miran Jarc Library.

Bibliography preparation (entering a published work into COBISS)

For a printout of your personal bibliography in the COBISS system, the FOŠ Library prepares bibliographic records for books, journal articles, and other contributions (e.g. in proceedings or similar publications). Records are created in accordance with professional standards and at the discretion of FOŠ library staff.

The service is charged according to the FOŠ price list. Ordering and preparation proceed as follows:

  • The author completes the form with details of the published work and the author(s), and submits it to the FOŠ Library online, in person, or by post.
  • If the information provided is incomplete or incorrect, the library will notify the author and request corrections.
  • Once a correctly completed form is received, the library will confirm the delivery time for the records and provide them to the requester.

Records for materials not held in the FOŠ Library collection are prepared by agreement with the author.

Form: Entering a Published Work in COBISS

Researcher bibliographies in COBISS are updated once a month. To enter works into the system, the author must submit the completed form together with the primary document to the FOŠ Library, either in person or by e-mail to vesna.grabnar (at) fos-unm.si.

A bibliography can only be considered complete if the author, in cooperation with the library, ensures the proper entry and editing of records, assigns the correct document typology, and follows the Rules on Indicators and Criteria of Scientific Performance as well as the Typology of Documents/Works for Maintaining Bibliographies in COBISS.

Interlibrary loan

Users may borrow items that the FOŠ Library does not hold from other libraries in Slovenia or abroad through interlibrary loan (ILL). Costs are charged according to the FOŠ Library price list; international ILL costs depend on the service type and the supplier’s pricing.

Orders can be placed in person or by e-mail at knjiznica (at) fos-unm.si.

By placing an order, the user agrees:

  • to pay all costs incurred by the interlibrary loan upon pickup;
  • to pay all costs even if the item is not picked up;
  • to return the item on time and undamaged (late returns are subject to fines; in case of damage or loss, all costs are borne by the user).

Items must be collected in person. Items supplied in electronic form (e.g., journal articles) are delivered by e-mail.

Loan periods and renewal options are determined by the lending library. Orders already forwarded to a foreign supplier cannot be cancelled. Cancellation of an order from a Slovenian library is possible only if the supplying library has not yet dispatched the ite.

For more information, call +386 (0) 59 074 163 or email knjiznica (at) fos-unm.si.
